      The Salood-Dungra village of Chamoli district in Uttarakhand is once again ready to celebrate its vibrant folk-cultural festival “Ramman 2025” in a grand way. This year, the excitement in the village for the festival is on another level.

       In this article, I’ll share full details about Ramman 2025 – its date, rituals, traditions, village tour, and the complete event schedule.

Establishment of Bhumiyal Devta – 14 April 2025

On 14 April, which is Chaitra Sankranti, the village’s main deity Bhumiyal Devta was ceremoniously placed in his permanent temple with proper Vedic rituals. This temple is located in the upper part of the village and it’s the first time that the deity has been established here.

Since the establishment, Bhumiyal Devta has started his traditional village tour (Doli Yatra), which will continue till 23 April. During this period, the deity visits each household, gives blessings, and spiritually energizes the entire village.

Date of Ramman 2025 – 30 April 2025

This year, Ramman Festival will be celebrated on 30 April 2025, which falls on a Wednesday. On this day, all village deities will be invited. There will be folk theatre performances, traditional dances, and the famous Ramman Mask Dance.

Full Schedule of Ramman 2025

14 April – Day of Establishment

• Installation of Bhumiyal Devta in the new temple

• Special prayers, Dhol-Damau (traditional drums) for welcoming the deity

• Aarti and distribution of Bhog (prasad)

15 April to 22/23 April – Village Tour (Doli Yatra)

• Each day, the deity visits different parts of the village

• In every home, people welcome the deity with prayer and rituals

• Traditional songs, dhol, ragas, and offering of rice as Bhog

Till 22 or 23 April, the deity will visit different lanes, localities, and homes, giving blessings to villagers.

During this time, you will hear the sound of bhajans, dhol-damau, and see lamps lit in every house.

After 23 April, the deity will stay in the temple until 30 April, the main day of Ramman.

30 April – Main Event of Ramman

Morning:

• Ganesh Puja and land purification

• Decoration of Ramman site

• Preparation of puja items

Afternoon:

• Arrival of Bhumiyal Devta at the Ramman ground

• Aarti and Havan

• Beginning of traditional songs and local music

Evening:

• Mask theatre performance – Characters like Ravan, Ram, Lakshman, Hanuman, Bharat, Mwor, Mwareen, Baniya, Baniyan, etc. are played

• Folk dances with dhol-damau beats

• Jagar singing – stories of deities are narrated

• Local prasad and food is shared

• Youth of the village also present a Garhwali comedy skit

Night:

• Farewell procession of the deity

• Final Aarti

• Formal closing of the festival

Specialties of Ramman

• Masks: This is the only festival in Uttarakhand where dances and plays are performed wearing traditional wooden masks.

• Entire Village Participation: Every home in the village takes part – be it food arrangements, dancing, or singing folk songs.

• Recognized by UNESCO: In 2009, Ramman was declared as Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.

• Deity Tradition: Bhumiyal Devta is considered the guardian of the village. No auspicious event happens without his blessings.
