Jeetu Bagdwal was a young man from the Garhwal region. He played flute beautifully. His music was so enchanting that locals say the fairies or “Aanchariyan” of Khait Parvat heard him and came to listen.

The fairies offered him to join them — to leave his human world and go with them. Jeetu agreed, but asked for some time to complete his duties. As per local belief, he promised to return on a fixed day, during the traditional rice-planting ritual (Ropai) to finish his work.
On that day, as villagers ploughed the field with oxen, the fairies appeared and Jeetu Bagdwal vanished — along with his oxen — into the earth. He never returned. Locals believe the fairies took him to their mystical abode and he lives there forever.
After his disappearance, people began to treat Jeetu not as a mortal, but as a guardian spirit or local deity. Villagers worship him as protector, especially during festivals connected to crops and harvest. His memory lives on through songs, dance, and folk rituals in many villages of Garhwal.

Trek to Khait Parvat
